Situated on the edge of the Chiltern escarpment, the course is noted for its stunning views, gently undulating fairways and excellent greens. With a par of 71, it measures 6384 yards for men and 5447 yards for ladies. An initial nine holes were designed by Willie Park Jnr, twice winner of the Open Championship, and constructed in 1906 on leased land that was part of the Chequers estate. Substantial changes to the layout were made in 1924, and in 1930 the Club was able to secure the services of five times winner of the Open Championship, James Braid, to design a further 9 holes, bringing the course up to a full 18 holes. This remained the layout until 1999 when additional land available allowed the lengthening of the course, encompassing two new holes.
